Developing Mathematical Reasoning Workshop

"I loved being able to practice and work at my own pace through the course... I could learn at my own pace but it was still interactive. I think PD in this platform is so awesome." - Nancy Estepa @nancy_estepa

This highly requested in-person workshop is now available FREE online. Learn what it means to develop mathematical reasoning and how algorithms can derail this progression.

This is a 4 week mini-workshop: 4 modules for a total of 8 hours of free, world class professional learning.

Building Powerful Multiplicative Reasoning Workshop

We are thrilled to announce another online workshop in the Developing Mathematicians Series.

If you are a 3-12 grade teacher and want to master transitioning your students from additive thinkers to rockstar multiplicative thinkers, this workshop is for you! Learn how multiplicative thinking applies to all grade levels. It will have a section specifically for 3-5 teachers on building single digit fact fluency and for 8-12 teachers on polynomial multiplication.

This is a 7 week workshop: 7 modules for a total of 20 hours of world class, professional learning.

Building Powerful Proportional Reasoning: Ratios and Proportions

"Pam Harris’ Workshop, Building Powerful Proportional Reasoning, is one of THE best proportional thinking courses I have ever seen – and that is a LOT coming from a University Professor talking about a non-University course! I couldn’t believe all that one could get in this course for the price – I would pay triple the retail price for all the learning that is involved! "                                                            - Dr. Hilary Kreisberg, Director of the Center for Mathematics Achievement, Lesley University

Join the hundreds of teachers who have built their own proportional reasoning as they are building their students'!

This is a 6 week workshop: 6 modules for a total of 20 hours of world class, professional learning.

I Believe

Math is Figure-Out-Able

Passing a test and becoming a mathematician are two different things. I learned to reanalyze what it means to do and teach math. This process has led me to help teachers all over the world.

But now, I want to help YOU.

"I can truly say that because of this course (and all of the other things you do - #MathStratChat, Facebook sessions, Lessons & Activities book, for example) I am a better mathematical thinker and a better teacher of mathematical thinkers. I was able to apply the lesson ideas and strategies immediately and I know that my students have been so positively impacted as well. Barriers have been broken, mindsets have been shifted... My students are often talking about how math is figureoutable now! I look forward to continuing to grow with you and with students in the future! Thank you for everything."

"My favorite part was learning how to do real math using relationships I already knew. I did not know this was possible. I really wish I was taught the strategies we learned when I was in school instead of traditional algorithms, but I’m glad I know them now so that I can teach them to my future students. I view math differently now. Math has always been my least favorite subject but the strategies I’ve learned in this class have made me like it more; even my best friend can see the more positive change in my view of math! I liked the problem string worksheets!"

“Every day with you was awesome because you taught so many different things. You were passionate about everything you taught... but one thing that blew my mind was when multiplying you can also double and halve. I’ve been teaching that to all my loved ones. The "I have, you need" came in very helpful for several different math lessons. There was so much and I thought I was someone that wasn’t good with math and now I have a little more faith in myself."

Jose Ochoa

Granbury ISD

"I usually think training is a waste of time, but this is honestly the best teacher training I’ve ever had."

Mitzi Sinclair

"This has been one of the best courses ever. I love thinking about math in a different way and seeing what it looks like in grades above me. Thank you so much."

Cynthia Zelik

Clarke Middle School

"I truly appreciate the interactivity that you built into this workshop. I wasn't just watching, listening, reading -- I was also doing! That is rare in an online anything. I look forward to learning more from your many other online sources!"

"If you would like to improve your personal math numeracy and improve your teaching of math numeracy, thus empowering your students to think mathematically, then attend a workshop. Just go!  You will figure out new things!"

Cheryl Brewer

Humble ISD

"When I first started teaching I thought math would be the easiest subject to teach because is was black and white, there was one way and there was one answer and there was no room for interpretation. The frustration was overwhelming! This workshop was different BECAUSE it taught me to look at and reason about numbers differently, to find patterns, to mathematize, SO I could help my students do the same.  This workshop was not just another “program” or organizational structure and was not about taking home 10 new activities.  It was actual teacher training.  I feel like after more than 20 years of teaching math, I finally found the key to unlock the treasure box!!!"

Empower Your Teaching

About Building Powerful Numeracy for Middle and High School Students:

This book is an outstanding and welcome contribution to the field of mathematics education. It simultaneously addresses the development of numeracy and the extensions to the mathematical ideas taught on the secondary level and does so in a wonderfully engaging, coherent, and thoughtful way. Any secondary teacher reading this book will come away with a far deeper understanding of how to develop numeracy and fluent computation while integrating the more advanced topics that they are required to teach.
